Fitness For Women The Commercial Gyms Don’t Teach You
Fitness for women has become a heated debate because of the many myths, misconceptions and believes surrounding this topic. Sometimes you have to wonder if women are considered a human species when fitness for women is on the agenda. The big question is:
Do women have special needs when it comes to getting in great shape? (Tweet Me)
More women than ever are joining fitness centers and gyms. What was once a male dominated world is now a pleasant mix of both genders. The fitness industry has succeeded at getting women’s attention by expanding on the classic weight training that started it all with cardio machines, easily adjustable machines and a wide range of classes.

Want a toned beach ready body like this? The typical fitness for women advice won’t get you there.
But is this actually good thing? Both yes and no. On the positive side, women are now more active than ever – But, and it’s a big but. The activities that get the women to join are the very same things that prevent them from getting the results that was the intention for starting at all. Getting results is what keeps the motivation high for many women. When the results don’t show up the motivation declines and ends in the cancellation of the membership. “Why even bother exercising – It only takes away from my precious time and doesn’t give anything in return”
Fitness for women – a confusing business.
Most women, who join fitness centers want to lose body fat, transform their bodies and get toned without getting “big muscles” in the process. I will discuss the matter of “big muscles” in part 4. The solution is to put these women on treadmills, bikes and “special developed” machines for women’s “problem” areas. In addition they get crammed in to classes which job is to entertain, so they at least have some fun while “exercising”.
As a side remark I want to point out that some exercise is off course better than not exercising at all. My point is that it’s the intention of getting results that was the driving force for starting in the first place. The fitness centers have to take their responsibility seriously! It’s simply not good enough the way they handle their members. They deserve quality instruction – not some faulty premise and lousy guidens.
I don’t know if it unawareness, low qualifications among the staff or simply lack of resources to instruct in correct and result producing training. Maybe a combination of all three. Think about the cost if the big corporation fitness centers should instruct each member in correct training and nutrition. To teach every member all the aspects of training and nutrition is an education in itself. Do you think that they could keep the low membership fees? The solution is “easy” to do machines, cardio equipment and classes where no individual instruction is needed. 5 minutes of instruction to learn how to press a green “quick start” button and you can be left on your own. Or better yet – Put them in a class.
Now they can stand in the corner and do every exercise wrong without any guidens and instruction. How should the instructor have time to teach each participant every exercise correctly – they have 30 other people in the class, and a soundtrack to keep up with. Is it any wonder that women often feel neglected and left to their own devices?
