Gwyneth Paltrow Diet Not to Blame for Brittle Bones
There’s been press that the Gwyneth Paltrow diet is to blame for the 5-9 actress’s diagnosis of osteopenia when she was only 37, two years ago.
Osteopenia is a forerunner to osteoporosis: brittle bone disease. The critics want to blame the Gwyneth Paltrow diet on this because it restricts, or maybe even outright excludes, dairy products.

When you think Gwyneth Paltrow diet, two might come to mind, because there are two, but don’t blame either for her weak bones.
That’s a lot of hooey because ancient peoples didn’t eat any dairy other than Mother’s milk as babies. Once past weaning age, early man and woman went their whole lives without milk, yogurt and cheese.
They certainly didn’t suffer from brittle bones because they survived the harsh elements quite well, which is why you’re here today reading this!
If the Gwyneth Paltrow diet isn’t to blame for osteopenia, then what is?
The leggy blonde says on her “GOOP” Web site that she suffered a severe tibial plateau fracture (fracture of leg bone near knee). This lead to a bone scan, which led to the diagnosis.
Gwyneth Paltrow then talks about her vitamin D deficiency leading to this problem and makes no mention of calcium. She implies she’s always gone at lengths to avoid the sun, then below is a posting by a doctor explaining the importance of sun exposure for vitamin D production.
We shouldn’t be so quick to blame the Gwyneth Paltrow diet on the movie star’s bone health. If the Gwyneth Paltrow diet were to blame, then a LOT of female stars would be breaking bones left and right, since many of them restrict or avoid dairy. Many of them also spend a lot of time in the sun! Do some heavy strength training as well and you shouldn’t have to worry about brittle bones.
What is the Gwyneth Paltrow diet?
There are two versions. One was how she prepared for her role as Pepper Potts in “Iron Man.”
Breakfast: green tea, food bar or a “Clean Shake” with “Move Powder.”
Post-workout: kale (a leafy green) juice mixed with water, lemon juice and agave nectar
Lunch: either grilled chicken, a roasted turkey wrap, or two vegan wraps
Mid-day snacks were almonds or tea.
Dinner was vegetable salad or turkey kale soup
Gee, not many calories here, but it was to prepare for a movie role.
Regular Gwyneth Paltrow diet
The movie star snacks on raw almonds, juices and coconut water, and though she tries to keep dairy and meat off-limits, she does indulge in favorites. She admits to having at one sitting pasta with duck sausage, fried clams and two glasses of wine.
The Gwyneth Paltrow diet obviously includes potatoes, pasta and bread, because she’s quoted as saying, “When I want to lose, I eat less pasta, bread and potatoes.”
She once told Oprah that she’d rather exercise more to off-set food than go on a diet. Every morning she has coffee with almond milk, plus green juice; lunch is lean protein and vegetables. The star says, “Dinner is where I really go off the rails.” French fries and red wine are favorites when eating out.
The Gwyneth Paltrow diet sounds pretty much what many ordinary women eat.
